I was looking forward to reading Fishtailing by Wendy Phillips. It had a good looking cover, and the back summary sounded good. When I opened my book and saw it full of poems I was quite disappointed. This book was a combination of poems, written by students at a high school. I am not a poet by any means, but I didn’t think the poems in the book were written as well as they could have been. The story line was hard to fallow along with because of the style this book was written in. The poems didn’t seem to have to do with each other, so the plot wasn’t clear. I went online and looked at reviews for this book after reading it. I was surprised to see the amount of people who said they enjoyed this book. Before reading the reviews I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone. Now I would say that if are looking for a quick read and don’t hate poetry, then try this book. Lots of people who had written reviews also said that the normally don’t like poetry, but still enjoyed this book. Obviously if it has won awards then people must like it, but I can’t say I am one of them.
